Who we are

In 2011, I faced some mental health challenges that catapulted me into inspiring this idea... What Makes Me Happy. I’ve met with medical practitioners, psychiatrists, therapists alike. I’ve been told some wild things as a patient seeking care. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive the care I have received, but it’s time to break the stigma.

In 2019, we had what was our biggest online presence to date. With a Facebook group of over 500 members, we had weekly music polls and shared inspirational quotes an Bible verses (thank you Bethany for this). It was a very public breakup that completely dismantled it all and it allowed me to take a few steps back to focus on a few other things.

In 2020, I moved to Florida to spend what would be my father’s last year of life. After my father’s passing in 2021, it caused a lot of grief and strife between my family members and I. We’re still not the same today. I stayed in FL until I lost my job in 2024 and ultimately lost it all. I sit with the consequences of those actions everyday.

When I moved back to Georgia in May 2025, I was looking forward to reconnecting with my friends, fixing everything I’ve broken, and try this again… but better. I’ve learned recently with everyone and everything that has come and go in my life, there has only been one that has been consistent and remains… God.

I want What Makes Me Happy to be a faith-based project that focuses on the gaps the current mental health system lacks. People need care and it shouldn’t matter if they can’t afford it, don’t have insurance, don’t have the transportation means. I thought about this a lot over the years in Florida… how I want to bring WMMH back. The significance of it and how important WMMH is to me and those around me. What it’s capable of doing and what it can do not only for myself but those I love and those who love others.

To finish this off, here’s three things that ultimately make me happy: listening to my daughter laugh, the sound of ocean waves crashing along shores, chocolate chip cookies.
